A balloon may cause strong emotions in your fellow kayakers. Back in 1997 at the Tiverton Triathlon, in England, I used a balloon to mark my bike at the transition area. I lost lots of time trying to get the wetsuit off and just grabbed the bike (without removing the balloon). After the race, some fellow competitors came over and quietly offered me a taste of their fists should I ever again race past them with my red ballon....
