: I'm making a layed-up coaming lip using glass,C/F,and hybred cloth. I used
: foam to lay the glass on as a form per Vaclav's method. Everything went
: well but the multi layers of fabric are lumpy, with highs and lows. I
: could use fairing compound and used pigmented epoxy to get a nice smooth
: look but I wanted to leave the hybred carbon/kevlar look.
: Has anyone had success fairing with clear epoxy? I know I can add a little
: fumed silica but I don't how much I can use before the epoxy gets cloudy.
: I also remember reading about using semi cured epoxy to fill divots but I
: am filling more than just divots.
: any ideas appreciated-----------------

Larry,
How about fairing with thickened epoxy (balloons or spheres) and then put down a final cover layer with the carbon/Kevlar? You should be able to get a clean edge with scissors on a single layer (green cure) if you fair the coaming to final dimensions first.
