It' tough enough but being made from cotton it's a meal for every mold, fungus and microbe you can think of. In the old days every wood-canvas canoe had a fill coat of "white lead" under the paint. We all thought it was to smoothe the canvas but it was really a poisenous barrier to all the above critters. Canvas is not as strong and has a shorter life span than man made fibers. Those all-consuming "bugs" haven't figured out how to eat synthetic fibers yet.
Ya' git what ya' pay for.
