: Is the 11,000 RPM a bit much? I sure wasn't using that in my drill. More like
: half of the drill's maximum RPM, which probably works out to about 600
: RPM.
While the grinder/chainsaw disk sounds like overkill, the resiliency of the foam
makes it hard cut. You can do it at slower speeds and I've had a number of people
tell me they did just fine at slower speeds with the 3M paint stripping disk for the drill
that the other poster referred to as a big scrubby pad thingy.
As always with these posts, what one considers as "works" and what another considers as
"works" are not going to be the same thing.
If you've got grinders use'em. I wouldn't go out and buy a grinder just to shape one or two seats
unless you're really looking for an excuse to buy a grinder.
If you do use a grinder, again, I'd suggest getting as few tooth disk as possible to keep the foam
chunks big, and keep dust down. I rig a plastic booth around sticks clamped to my rafter to confine
the debris. If you don't the whole shop WILL get covered. You will too, so goggles, dust mask, and
tightly closed clothing is in order.
All the best,
Rob Macks
