Can't argue that - it is high priced for something that needs modification. But the only source I knew when I bought the first one was CLC - and it was buy the HB or a piece of 24"x24"x3" chunk of foam - not much cost difference. So it made financial sense at the time.

I think the reason it is so comfortable are the wedges for two reasons. First, it increases the support to the lower thigh. Secondly, under the sit bones the HB is suspended. The outer wedges are under the hip pads, and run the length of the seat. The center wedge is exactly that - centered. So when you sit in the seat, there is air space between the seat and the kayak floor under the sit bones - and the HB is thin enough that it "adjusts" like a gel pad. I know that is not how it was designed to be installed, but it works.
