Well...I've built a few boats. Other than that I've got about 45 years of woodworking experience. I've never owned a random orbit sander...until 2 weeks ago. I bought a Delta...can't remember the series...one of the expensive ones...not the cheap one. I've always used vibrating finish sanders for finishing...namely a Portercable speed block...and others. Fine equipment. Wouldn't want to do with out them. However...if I had to choose only one I'd go with as good an ROS as you can afford. The ROS is better for the boat and box building I'm doing now. Go with one that catches the sanding dust...and save the dust for making goop.
