I have the etrex vista. the trip computer is pretty accurate. I have had it miss a point by over 100 feet, but taht was in pretty bad conditions. On the water it's been pretty good.
Internally it seems to keep track to 1/1000 of a minute, i.e. about 6 feet north-south, and less east-west (depending on lattitude) so if you were going in 12 foot circles, it may get pretty confused.
