Hey Tom!

: Nice work on the kayak.

Thanks!

: I got into the Cormorant site for the first time and must admit it's a pretty
: cool design.

Almost like a SoF, only with hard walls? :)

: I don't feel that the extra 1/2" of deadrise is going to make much difference. : It would still appear to be under 15 degrees deadrise, which is still less
: than any of my boats.

!! Uh huh. Only, you didn't start kayaking in those, did you? Come on! You had a big, flat, plastic tub! Right? :)

: It appears to have little rocker, so that could make it a bit tippier.

Ok, it's looks like 12-13 degrees of deadrise and about 1 3/4" of rocker (if I did that right - I'll have to measure sometime on a better surface). Ah, the design rocker 2 1/2". Hmm. Well...

: So, relax in the boat, sit low, get in lots of time on the water.
: Remember, you can learn to make a tippy kayak perform, but a fat, stable
: kayak will "always" be just a fat stable kayak.

Tee hee! Right now I'll concentrate on finishing her. And when I get the chance (get a partner!), I'll be back out! I don't feel really comfortable about being upside-down without someone to pull me out if I get stuck... Besides, the water's cold! Still... Maybe... Behind this dam (a pile of rocks - not an electric plant!) there's a nice pool... Maybe...

: Deadrise and tippy are relative terms. Check out the attached pic. Here is
: a 17.5" wide kayak with 4.6" ( 32 deg) of deadrise with 13"
: chine separation.
: Paddle this for a while, and your Cormorant will feel like a barge.

Ok, ok! Overwhelmingly you're all saying the same thing! I'll get used it and enjoy it! (Maybe with training wheels for a little while?)

cheers!
charles
