Hi Eric,
The boat in question was the first folder I made about 10 years ago. It's
a multi-chine George Dyson design. Ironically, his was all aluminum. Having
never seen a folder before, it was my best guess at how to make one. And I
guessed wrong on many counts.
The stringers were made of pine and the cross sections plywood. It had
aluminum "L" brackets bolted to the cross section/stringers. The exact
construction details are better forgotten. Needless to say, it was a very
slow construction and assembly process. The skin was sewn nylon coated with
Neoprene/Hypalon.
Though not the success I was hoping for, it taught me many valuable lessons
regarding frame and skin materials, and how "not" to attach cross sections to
stringers. I've built seven other folders since then, and hopefully am finally
getting it right. This trial and error stuff sure is time consuming.
