Did you use oil? When drilling metal, it's important to squirt some oil onto the area you are drilling. Keep squirting several drops of oil every few seconds. The oil lubricates the tip of the drill bit and allows the metal chips an easy exit. It also cools the drill bit and keeps it from binding up. You should apply enough oil so that the tip of the drill is always pretty wet.
