: 1) How do you like the upholstering idea? Is grip good? Seems like it might
: make it hard to lay back or squirm around if you need to. (The supplier is
: in Tennessee, probably more oriented to WW boats.)
: 2) Can you suggest an adhesive that would give me some working time to smooth
: out the fit (unlike contact cement).
I used 1/8" neoprene to cover a pair of foam seats I carved last summer. It's comfortable but I thought, ultimately, redundant. The foam is already pretty soft and comfortable. It also added some weight. With the fabric side out, it isn't particularly grabby and I didn't find it made it difficult to move around, etc. I attached the neoprene to the foam with one of the heavy duty 3M contact sprays, and it worked just fine. I sprayed both surfaces and then just kneaded the neoprene into place.
I also encountered none of the issues you deal with when you're wearing booties or a wet-suit for several hours. You're sitting ON the stuff, it's not wrapped around you. The seats are nice and I'll continue to use them. My friend, Barb, really likes her's since she appreciates the extra cushion it provides. So, the thin stuff can add an extra layer of comfort but I won't use it again just for the looks.
I 'm going to use the stuff I have left to make a spray-skirt.
