I spent the last two weeks in Saipan enjoying the 88 degree water and learning the history. On the second day there I rode a pacific Island out rigger Canoe and became fasinated with the type. I was able to find a canoe being built and spent some time talking with the historic preservation office. The canoes were all of the type built by the Carolinians as the catholic church had completly destroyed all vestages of the Chomarrow culture. I did meet a someone who is trying to recreate the Chomarrow techniques and saw the recreated tools.

They think that an englishman may have bought the last Chamarrow canoe sometime in the mid 1700s and took it back to england for exhibition. They hope that the canoe or parts may still be in existance in some forgotten museum. I am hoping to make contact with someone who has extensive knowledge of museum exhibits in England.
