I don't think you would see any weight savings. You would be on your own as to thickness and strengths. But...if it's the material you've got to work with I think it is possible. Some of the S&G designs would be suitable. If you do it...keep us posted. Any innovation in design and construction is of interest..whether I would ever want to do one, or not. I used a 15 grumman canoe for a long time. Good boat.
