My fishing kayak is a decked pirogue that works very well (though the new one is a stripper). Of course the pirogue has a flat bottom, so I know very well where you are getting wear. I probably do put one more coat of epoxy on than most builders. I feel it gives me just a little more protection before it gets to the fiberglass...and the dreaded wood. There are getting to be more and more kayaks, canoes, etc. in Texas now. Not too many around Gatesville, but we're getting there. I've also started a kayak, canoe, paddled craft site called texaspaddler.com: www.texaspaddler.com/nuke This is new, but...some people will do just about anything now days.
