I have done more research and found that the Englishman was Anson in 1748. He took a canoe back to england where the existant drawings were made from the reassembled canoe. The problem was that the canoe was reassembled by english boat builders who had not seen the canoe before disassembly. Certain errors crept in which are listed in a document I have not yet found.
