I don't know but I suspect the shape of the pack isn't constructed for back support,,only holding the weight of the bag comfortably. It's a good idea though,,,one of the things I've used that is useful is a little zippered bag by Salamander that's designed to go on the front pillar of a whitewater kayak. It's held but 1/8" shock cord through sliding spring clips so that in an emergency you could grab the bag and rip it out. It's about 4"x6". Mounted vertically behind the seat it provides a place for things to stay out of the puddle.
