Tomarrow I will put a PDF file on my webpage linked from here. It will be a measured drawing of both eyelets. Another original thought behind this idea, was that the kayak is cover with glass, and epoxy. This would allow the eyelet to adhere really well to the deck. I will flatten them out to match the contour of the deck and slick a 1/8" fillet around them. The thought behind the double is two part. First i wanted a double so i could thread my saftey line through it and also the shock-cord for the hatch cover. Secondly at a symposium in Muskegon Mi last year, i rented a kayak - i don't remember the make - the handles on the bow and stern had a short length of shock cord tied in a figure 8 fashion. This cord forced the handle to retract tightly to the first eyelet. If i use these i will mount a single about 3 or 4 inches back from the bow the handle will be tied to this, then behind it another 6 inches - or maybe more - i will have a double eyelet mounted, in the first hole on the double i will tie a piece of shock-cord so that it will loop around both sides of the rope used for the handle. This will then cause the handle to retract back against the front eyelet, so it isn't flopping in the breeze. The last hole in the double eyelet (i.e. the hole closest to the cockpit) will be the start of the safety line. In the stern i will reverse this. All this is of course hinged on if i can produce eyelets that don't shatter. They are really strong though i lifted over 300#'s with the double and it didn't break.
