I haven't glassed anything in a long while,,so to kick off the new season my friends 4yr old Coho that has one layer of 4oz s-glass with another layer on the center panels is getting another layer over the entire hull. Boy you think something isn't very durable because it's got dings and cracks (loaded touring, stacked tight against plastic boats without cushions, rentals, trips, etc, etc.) But once I started the 80 grit grind to get down to the glass it's obvious this stuff is tough. Ok,,maybe those dings and cracks actually were from falling off of trailers and landing on rocks when I wasn't looking/carrying the thing. And all those light people sitting in it on the dock where not all the nail heads are flush. So my whole hearted declaration is that two layers of 4oz s-glass is all right in my book. You can have your tight weave and satin weaves, I got something to really flatten nails now.

Went to Atlantic Kayak to look at all the pretty british boats,,"do I ,,could I ,,sure looks nice" and then when the price comes up all I could ever think of buying is a plastic boat. And then there's the ability to flatten nail heads with my own construction. nope,,no fancy production glass boats. My faith is restored.
