Since you have white showing, you have glass. Sanding into the glass happens all the time. If you sand it with wet and dry 220, you can see it disappear right in front of your eyes as the water wets out the area. If the fibers are stubborn, go finer - like 300 grit. You can then coat it with epoxy or even just varnish and we won't tell anyone it's there.
Structurally, you're fine.
