: Hey, Lee -
: Are you still paddling your Express a lot? I'm still pondering buying one but
: am more interested in building a boat that has similar handling
: characteristics. Or maybe I've already got one in the Cape Ann Storm. Have
: you run across any designs that make you think it might have the fine
: attributes of a Mariner? I noticed on paddling.net you used a Coho instead
: of your Express on a trip. How do they compare in hindsight?
: Jim
yep the Express is always there, it's not "fast" but neither am I. The funny thing is that I got started on this whole s&g kick wanting something like the Express but a bit "faster". I have no idea what's like it in wood. The Coho weathercocks slightly, isn't as maneuverable, can paddle at a higher average with the same effort, doesn't feel like it's pushing a wake as much, both big boats volume wise. I'm actually putting a Sealine on the Coho. I really didn't "need" it but for mindless straightline paddling the Coho isn't in the same league as the Express for keeping a course all points to the wind so I might as well take advantage of it's efficiency. The Coho is kind of like a BMW station wagon,,I don't know how to categorize the Express, it just is.
