I had a devil of a time with tape residue. Do not leave the tape on longer than required.

I scrubed it with a vinegar... but I think it was the scrubbing part that actually removed.

A day after I was done, someone posted a tip on the subject of removing tape. I seem to recall that it was using an eraser to take the goo off. It would be worth doing a search on the words tape and residue...
