I had a similar problem, also to remove adhesive from a label that was peeling from the deck. I tried a number of solvents, most just smeared the adhesive around.
Then I tried ski wax remover, about the only thing left, and after two wipes (really!) with the cloth and it was gone and the surface was still glossy (unlike the result of acetone or epoxy cleaner).
