: Make
: sure you use the tape trick around the edges of the second layer to
: eliminate a frayed edge ... if you don't, you'll have a lot-o-sanding and
: scraping of the frayed edge to look forward to when you fair it in. Watch
: for bubbles.

Thanks for the great info.... but.... what's the "tape trick"? On the deck I'll DEFINITELY put some masking tape on the edges of the glass that overhang the boat (what a mess I made!!), but the second layer will just be in the football area, so I'm not exactly sure where or how you apply tape that won't get covered with epoxy. Can you expand on that a little, please?

Regarding the oggling comments when the boat is done - I'm actually experiencing some of that already, and the boat has never left the dry dock (formerly the garage, in a past life). I have been working with the door open (it's going to be in the 80's today - I'm in Virginia) and neighbors and "walkers" have been stopping in and looking.

Right now, I'm proud of my baby and happy to show it off. I can imagine, though, that in a year, it will become somewhat of a pain when I'm in a hurry to get somewhere. But, I'll still be proud of my first strip built boat boat!

Oh, as an aside, my father-in-law is a classic "know it all, never wrong" stubborn type. I got HUGE ribbing when I started talking about building a boat, and lots of comments about it not floating, not being sea worthy, etc. The more progress I make, the less and less he's had to say, and now he doesn't even go into the garage to look any longer (he lives 2 miles down the road).

But, his brother lives 150 miles away, but makes trips down every few weeks, and while in town, will come over and spend an hour checking on progress and building me up with compliments, AND IT'S KILLING MY FATHER-IN-LAW and I'm LOVIN it!
