Are you stating a folder performs exactly as a hardshell?
Most rigid yaks paddlers precisely object to folders that our boats' hulls slack in time. PVC tarps don't have much resilience, and we backyard crowd don't tend to incorporate sponsons with our craft (sponsons ain't necessarily the absolute answer to slack b-t-w, unless we'd want our boat to end up looking like a Michelin Yak!).
We could imagine turning the extra slack skin over seams (glueing an extra width both sides of the outer seam, then tacking both sides together, two additional outer tapes preemptively marking the limit), but what would happen at ends exactly?
It should work but you'd find this a tad laborious and approximate.
Our hulls should be able to take in a reef from time to time for us to compete with the rigid crowd! But we still have to mechanise the process.
