I have just finished my hatch lips. I think that I used 7 layers (I am in the 230lbs column not 110). When I was blending the 6 layers of glass smooth to the underside of the deck I got a bit overzelous and sanded into the wood in a couple of small places (dime size or smaller). Do I need to go back and put some fiberglass patches there, or will sealing the wood with epoxy be good enough?

: Jay,

: If anything, I would make the rear hatch lip stronger than the front. It's a
: larger hole and a flatter surface. Both require more strength. Also, that
: part of the deck can be subject to some large loads on reentry practice.
: It has to stand up to you crawling all over the top of it. If you lose the
: lip while trying to perform a self rescue, and you don't have float bags
: in the compartment, you are in big doo doo. Now if you only weigh 110,
: it's not as big an issue than if you weigh more like 230. So build
: accordingly. Even six layers thick, hatch lips don't weigh very much.
