Brian,

Just thought I'd add little airline shipping info on folders. The max legal
baggage size is 62inches ( L + W + H) and 50 lbs. Oversize max is 115 inches
and 50 lbs ? Oversize costs range from $40.00 to $80.00 for domestic travel.
For that reason, my last two kayaks now have only 3 sections with the longest
being 72 inches( Easier to build and less frame flex). Golf travel cases are
exempt from the 62 inch max, unless of course they look inside and see a
kayak. This info seems to vary from airline to airline, and domestic vs
international.

With 115 inches max, you can probably carry your kayak and most,
if not all your paddling gear for $80.00 or less. Not bad considering the
alternative non-folding shipping costs.

If anyone have more accurate or more current information than mine, especially
on International travel, I'd like to hear about it.

We flew to New Zealand in '96 and at that time my kayak bag was 54 inches long
(82" total) and I was not charged extra. I'm sure that has changed since. I'll
take Air New Zealand over United anytime !

Thanks,

Tom
