I bought a set of Banshee hip pads ($20 U.S.) to keep myself centered. Each pad consists of a nylon bag held in place with velcro and straps. The nice thing is you can open a flap and switch pads depending on how thick your clothes are. They also came with a wedge shape set that helps keep you in the boat when your upside down. (I may loosen things up as my technique improves) The other thing that helps is good Knee hooks to pull against on your hip snap.
