Well, the Cirrus is getting very close to being finished.
I'll be taping the exterior shear seams today. After that
it's just details - sanding, seat, footrests, paddle, deck
hardware. Hopefully I'll be ready to launch in about a week.
I'm wondering about the timing of varnishing. I've seen some
dire warnings about the effects of sun on epoxy, and that you
should never let sunlight hit unprotected epoxy. On the other
hand, I've seen dire warnings about putting varnish over uncured
epoxy, and that it can take weeks or months for the epoxy to
cure.
So now I'm wondering, should I go ahead and paddle the boat
unvarnished for a while? Should I varnish it right away? Or
should I let it sit in the garage for a few weeks, then varnish
it, then launch it? (I hope that last choice isn't the right
one - I am so ready to put this boat in the water!)
