Strip: Complete removal of old varnish?
This summer I am going to refinish my first strip built canoe built about 12 years ago. I know more now about what a good finish should look like so I expect to do a lot of sanding to get the caboe to the smooth finish it should have been in the first place. I expect that I may sand to the point that another resin coat is needed. In some areas however, little sanding may be needed. I want to be sure that all the old varnish is removed before I apply a coat of resin. Question - what can I use to remove all traces of varnish that won't effect the bonding of the resin? Furniture stripper? laquer thinner? Other?
