Indeed it is! I'm not quite finished with my first building project (S&G plywood Arctic Hawk kit), and I'm already scheming my next boat...a SOF following Chris Cunningham's book ("Building The Greenland Kayak...").

Regarding "How cheap is cheap"?...

I haven't started collecting materials for my SOF yet, but from all the information I've gathered so far, it seems that they can be built very inexpensively (under $200 USD)...even if you have to buy all new wood for the frame. If you've already got some appropriate wood laying around your shop, it could be cheaper still (remember...the old native Greenlanders built their frames largely from salvaged driftwood!). In fact, since I have lots of driftwood available to me, I'm hoping to find a nice curved piece for my masik at least.
