: Iapetus Boatworks is in Maine. One guy, a geologist, who builds greenland
: style boats on his spare time.

: The builder is 170lbs and 5'10" but he bit built with some downsizing to
: also fit his wife who is smaller. Clearly he paddled it more. The Murre
: was trimmed for him. When I got it, it weathercocked noticeably in winds
: over 10 knots. The boat has a Happy Bottom seat. I kept paddling in
: conditions and moving the seat back until I have the boat trimmed neutral
: up to 15 knots and over. It also has a skeg but I prefer not to use it
: much.

: The Murre has probably a 2" rocker max. She's a straight tracker boat
: for point A to point B trips. Obviously putting her on a chine allows her
: to turn better. But still not as well as my Montauk on edge. But, the
: Montuak is 16' compare to 17.5 OAL and has more rocker.

: Up to the point of building my SOF, the Murre was my "lowest"
: volume boat. Even so, at 140lbs, I can probably fit a week's gear
: (backpacking approach) in her hatches. The fact that I have almost 4"
: of freeboard means she has more than enough volume to carry me and the
: gear.

: I think for a low volume S&G, unless someone comes up with something really
: lower volume, I am still thinking that I would have to build an SOF I
: really like and transferring the lines to a S&G construction.

Just a note from the designer of the Murre...I'm still working on the latest version. At the moment, it's just a leaky canoe (the hull is stitched together, but not epoxied). I've got rid of the skeg, and added another inch of rocker. I'm also using 3mm ply throughout, sheathed on both sides with 6-oz S-type fiberglass. I've also lowered the rear deck height to 6.5" (top of combing). I've written a construction manual which I intend to sell. But before I do that, I'm going to want someone to beta-test the plans/construction manual to make sure it goes together as I intend it to. My progress has been slow as I only have a few hours per week to work on it, but I hope to complete it by the end of June.
