Eric Schade of Shearwater Boats has a dayhatch option in his custom boats. He used to have a photo of it on his website but I couldn't find it. I think he shows it in his catalog. It is basically a small deck hatch with a recessed box to hold your binoculars or your Nikon. (By the way, love my Nikon F3, been all over the world crammed in backpacks and drybags and never failed me yet.) He uses a knob hatch closure with a hinge at the back and the knob at the front.
