I lied. $191.

2 spruce 1x8's were in the "whitewood" #2 bin. The piece of 1x4 mahogany was about $8. Everything was cut to 3/16" with a thin-kerf 7 1/4" circ saw blade in my table saw.

Cedar for the deck recess was free out of a scrap pile.

I also probably used $5 in ash veneer for the coaming.

I only used about a gallon of resin. We did a group purchase, and it ran about $40/gallon after shipping for an 18 gallon order (Don Flowers took 6, and my buddy who is building a drift boat took 9). Tiny fillets, lots of filler in the end pours, good squeegeeing on the fill coats. I think the boat is easily in the low 30-lb range. (no bulkheads or seat yet) Ask Don, though, it is light!! (This was to prove to myself I could do a lightweight S&G hull) My Guillemot was 46#.

Glass was cheap; unfortunately that deal is long gone. :( I overlap pieces on a wider roll, so it doesn't take a full 6 yards of fabric to cover an 18' boat...I can get closer to 2 - 18' long coats from a 6 yd x 50" piece of fabric.

I don't use brushes...squeegees cut from yogurt containers, and a piece of open cell foam cut into brush-sized pieces and latex gloves. To be fair, I probably used $4 or 5 worth of latex gloves.

Copper wire for stitching was from a recycle bin at the scrap yard. $0.50.

Plans were free from Grant on the Web. No footbraces (will use bulkhead), no minicell,

Let's say...$201.50-ish!

But, this cheap bastard just cut his thumb with a utility knife working on an even cheaper (all wood will be scrounged, pay for skin only) Greenland SOF, and got 7 stitches in the ER. I haven't seen the bill yet, but I'm sure it will be more than $201.50. *sigh*

: Shawn, I don't get it. Do you mean the Resin, Hardner and cloth cost $170? At
: first, I read it as the whole boat costing that, but based on the prices
: I'm paying for stuff, that would seem impossible. I'm East Coast
: (Virginia) and I paid $233 for Cedar and Cypress, $259 for glass, resin,
: hardner, pumps, UPS etc, $95 for plans, $53 for misc. stuff like sand
: paper, tape, glue, brushes, wax paper, plastic, mixing cups, etc., about
: $20 for minicell, will pay about $35 for foot braces, and I'm still not
: done yet.

: I'm hoping the cost will stop at under $800, and much of the supplies I
: bought are re-usable (like, I bought a gallon of glue, and still have over
: 1/2 of it left for the next boat, etc).

: If you really did manage to build a boat for a total of $170, then first -
: YOU ARE MY HERO, and second - HOW DID YOU DO IT!
