Okay, I finished the vertical strips on the cockpit coaming on my Guillemot L (remember the L has more capacity for gear or beer). They look pretty decent. I started to make the cockpit lip out of ash, but let's just say things weren't going right. I read the chapter in Nick's book where he suggested using foam for the lip and glassing over it. I found some blue closed cell foam and made the lip and I'm getting ready to glass over the coaming.
Here's the questions:
How many layers of glass should I use? (5 oz. Raka glass)
What kind of paint should I use over the glass to hide the ugly blue foam? I'm thinking an acrylic paint (probably black), which would then be covered with spar polyurethane.
