this is one of those things that has no clear answer, for day paddling the lack of hardware with no rudder is a nice thing. The boat weathercocks an amount that a skeg can balance just fine. The steerage issue with that boat is that it's lean-to-turn characteristics are primarily within a narrow range of balance, if you lean more there really isn't a corresponding ease of turning as the curve of the chines and ends really don't unweight the ends of the boat. Over time and distance that tends to piss me off making brute force methods like a rudder attractive.
I'd suggest nothing then go for a rudder or skeg some day when the conditions make it necessary,,as opposed to deciding according to the inanimate boat. You might consider other skeg designs than the CLC one with regards to the high mounted lever and location of the pivot hole.
