: In south Louisiana, more than a few locals have referred to my kayaks and
: canoes as "pirogues" and they don't come close to resembling a
: traditional pirogue. I find the term used as a colloquial name for a small
: boat without a motor. A small boat with a motor is generally referred to
: as a "bateau". David's boat would cerainly be called a pirogue
: in LA even though it somewhat deviates from the traditional design. I
: can't wait to see David pole it standing up as some do. Some pirogues I've
: seen poled scare me. They're relatively narrow with only a few inches of
: freeboard.

It is a nice boat. My brother built a cajun Pirogue. I've poled it but prefer stting in it. Standing in it is a bit scary.
