: is that snow out the window??
: you should have a fun time sanding,,make sure and wear a mask and connect a
: vac to the sander.

yeah that's snow.... enough to make me depressed... For some bizarre reason it always seems to snow within one day of my birthday (May 20).. I guess it is early this year. It's supposed to warm up for the weekend, I so want to get out on the local river with the kayak.

Although I agree with your advice in general, in this case I've not done that. (I use a resporator when sanding usually). However, by squirting the epoxy (now about 4 months dry) with water, prior to sanding with a hand block(no way to attach a vacume). I found I had almost no dust, that is I had not dust I could detect.

While the area that was just sanded and full of milky residue, was still damp, I wiped it off with a rag, and rinsed it down the sink. It is slow, but realaxing work, doing 2 ft at a time. I do not care for the noise of the sander, and enjoy the radio while I work.

I'm confident, that had I used a ROS, and the vacume attachement, and a mask, I'd have sucked back alot more dust. Then even after vacuming the basement, I'd still be sucking more dust for quite some time. I say this, because I can not get into every nook and cranny with the vacume cleaner, and months latter I can disterb it.

But I've a big sink right in my building area, so it is easy for me to keep the cloth fairly clean. (and boy do I use that sink alot more than I thought I would when I installed it)

As I said at the onset, I agree with your advice to wear a mask when sanding, especially epoxy, that is not fully cured, and cedar. However, this is one case, and method where I did not.

take care,

Myrl.
