: I am making a 9'6" bird's mouth shaft. Most articles on bird's mouth
: shafts seem to suggest using cedar or spruce. I am unable to find any
: clear cedar in my area, but can get some clear pine. I like the rot
: resistance of cedar, but the shaft will be protected by epoxy resin
: anyway.

: Does anyone know of a reason for not using pine? I did a shorter test shaft
: and the pine seemed strong enough.

Most of the ceder I find these days is close to pine in weight. I could send big $ to find light stuff but not alot of wood in the shaft. Pick and choose the light pine.
