First if you are launching from peirs, or the edge of rocks, it could provide some protection. But I think I agree the biggest benifit would be that it would hide a bad joint. I disagree, I think they look goodl, but that is just opinion.

If you really don't like it, and have not joind your hull to deck, I dissagree that it is to late. Do a bit extra work making sure you have a nice tight fit between the two. After that you can make a final decision if you want the out side strip of wood, or no. I think you can still join the outside with a strip of fiberglass tape. Round off the edge a bit (1/4 radius), and if you use a bias cut fibergalss tape I think it should work well to cover the edge, covering an inch on the deck, and an inch on the hull.
That's what I'd try.

However, given the internal shear clamp, you may be able to go with regular glass, and not round off the joint. With this you could then glass only the hull, and the edge of the deck? However I think and dings on the corner would then show right away.

One final thing to think on, or have the board talk to, is to just use the shear clamp, No outside tape or wood strip? It maybe enough if you have a good
solid sheer clamp.

Cosmetically the key is to get the very good joint between the hull and deck.
