I gather that you bayeau types favor a single paddle but a boat that narrow would take a longish double paddle nicely. No need to j-stroke or change sides. Always got water in my lap doing that.
It would also be more effective when walloping 'gators. If the paddle is fairly long you won't dribble water on yourself when the off blade is raised in the air.
Here are a couple of pictures that show the type of lumber I'm talking about. They were taken when I took my pirogue out in Lake Superior last summer.
