The hull is Okoume, the deck is maple. The arrowhead design on the deck is made of walnut, and is actually there to cover for a cutting mistake I made (but it looks nice anyway.) It came in a little heavy, at 48 lbs, but for a first boat I'm happy with that.
The footrest is the one from Nick's book and so far I really like it. Hard to say for sure based on five minutes in the pool, but it does feel comfortable. The seat is a "pre sculpted seat blank" from Redfish Kayaks. It took very little work to make it fit the boat.
The seat back is as described in the Cirrus manual - a piece of bendable plywood wrapped around the cockpit form and layed up with some carbon fiber cloth. Straps attach it to the hip plates and to the back of the cockpit. I'm going to need to do some rework on that part - the loops I made to attach the straps to the cockpit were too weak and tore loose.
Bulkheads are just cut from 1/4" birch plywood. I picked up a 24" x 30" piece that was just big enough to make the two bulkheads and the footrest. It's not marine, but it's sealed in epoxy so I don't think it will hurt.
I made the paddle too, following the instructions in Nick's book. The shaft is clear pine, the blades are oak, walnut, and poplar. I'm really pleased with the way it came out, although it's a bit shorter than I had planned. Guess I'll have to build another.
If/when I build a second boat I'm really leaning towards one of Tom Yost's SOF designs. I like the aluminum/HDPE design - and I'm really tired of epoxy and fiberglass.
The link below to my building log is kind of old - I haven't updated the page in quite a while. But at least the early steps are there.
: Okay, good job, now for the details, what kind of wood, how heavy, what kind
: of footrest, seat, seatback, bulkheads.
: I took my cirrus out yesterday for a 5 mile paddle in a chop with 15 knot
: wind on an open lake, pretty interesting! It does track but also responds
: to the waves and wind, much fun!
