: Shawn: It is 7 inches. Which on me is one fistmele plus 1 inch. I would like
: to get back that inch by recessing the back of the coaming. Then the back
: of the coaming should end up about where it would be for a SOF boat.

Love it! That's where my Cormorant is. Since I'll use it sometimes for instruction, I wanted room for a small sleeping bag. If you have the inclination to do a recessed coaming, by all means do it!!!

: I
: added the inch of deckheight because I'm fighting the footroom issue

I'm working on stretching my quads, hamstrings, and feet so they point forward! :D

:Forward, I plan on a laminated masik at the height that
: it would be in a Greenland SOF.

Sweet!

: What do you figure that the time savings would be
: cheap/dirty vs. strip, knowing that I will build a coaming and hatches
: either way?

Skip the hatches with quick and dirty. Use a stacked coaming that's also quick and dirty. Probably 15 hours to do the Q&D deck. 1 hour to demo it.

: Are you saying that the first strip at the gun'l is the bevel and then the
: deck goes across flat?

Yes. The sheer joint is below the strip.

: So a builder would lower the side panel a little so
: that the deck height is maintained?

Yes. About 5/8" to maintain the same deck height.
