: Hey, folks. I have a question specific to the Outer Island, regarding
: fairing/sanding the interior of the deck. I understand that the interior
: does not have to be as fair/sanded as the exterior. But, when I do it, I
: want to get the cockpit area looking good. So, while it's obvious that the
: interior of the hull in the cockpit area will be plainly visible, it's not
: so clear to me how much of the deck interior will be visible. Clearly, the
: area immediately under the deck will not, but what about the sides as you
: move down towards the shear? How much of that will be visible? I'm
: thinking that I need to pay attention to about an inch up fromt he shear,
: but since my cockpit isn't cut out yet (so that I can just look and see),
: it's just a guess.
: My interest in this is that I can either just "fill" the voids if
: it won't be visible, but I'll want to spend additional time getting it to
: look right if it is visible.
: Thanks for the help!
: Rick
I'd say a few inches above the shear should do it unless you stick your head in the cockpit. Check out the attached link for some pictures that may help. As reference, the light cypress starts/stops at the waterline. Also, I made a larger size cockpit than called for in the plans. The smaller cockpit will hide the deck even more.
