soft plastic over hard plastic shell with an oval cover on top that clips over the enclosed knot. There are finger indents. It tapers to the ends. Honestly someone somewhere should be getting an award for making these. If you roll your fingers into a small paddle grip,,or gorilla grip as I call it you'll notice that your knuckles don't line up in a straight line, the middle two are deeper than the outer fingers. So a toggle made to fit your hand should have a thick center section tapering to the ends so the little finger and index finger don't have to flatten out like on a piece of PVC or straight stock.
