: In many ways it's easier to make a mold than something out of wood. You could
: take a piece of modeling clay and squeze it and presto- you have the ideal
: shape.
Clay toggles will work fine even as the finished product if baked according to the directions (or longer), then rough sanded, then epoxy covered (several healthy coats, or dipped). And the shape could be a perfect fit to your hand. 4oz glass on these clay handles takes alot longer to make (you were right Bill), but once done, they're indestructable. Two of my samples broke in half, before I could epoxy them, but it was because I drilled a small hole and twisted them onto an inverted screw on a board. The rest that are covered with epoxy are very tough, although I haven't tried any break tests yet, other than just trying to snap 'em in half.
: No reason you couldn't duplicate it
: in wood if you want to.
Agreed, could even laminate several types of woods together and carve it to match the clay prototype for your hand size. I'll admit wood handles look better, but colored clay handles are much easier to make and could be very original. Sculpey has enough colors available, probably could make wood looking clay handles. Just a thought.
