: I just finished the last piece on an inlay in my deck and am ready to get to
: work sanding and finishing my guillemot single (my first!). I need to
: troll the wisdom of the builders out there on the following points before
: I start: 1. In my artistic zeal, I have quite a few spots that need
: filling. What's everyone's favorite recipe for filling gaps/ cracks? Do
: you use cab-o-sil, quartz microspheres, wood flour, wood glue, epoxy? My
: deck is a mix of redwood and light western cedar. I have wood flour from
: each.

: 2. I'm going to veneer some work on the deck. From what I can gather, this is
: best done with epoxy after the sealer coat has partially cured. I could
: use a good brush-up on procedure if anyone has a good method.

: 3. Any tricks on sanding the coaming? I thought a webbing strap with
: sandpaper glued to it might work. Any ideas?

: Thanks for all the advice along the way. Any advice now would definitely
: help!

regarding coaming - i found the hardest part was sanding the bottom lip of the coaming. the following is the method i use now. i laminate the coaming pieces together using the actual coaming verticals with carpenters glue, i do not glue the part that touches the boat at this time. after 24 hours, i remove the laminated coaming from the boat, then i can plane and sand the bottom sections easily. once satisfied, glue the coaming onto the kayak with epoxy. the top and sides are easily shaped on the boat. by the way, i laminate my coamings in two halfs- left side and right side. hope this helps - steve pollack
