: Hi everyone, a fella I know through the internet is trying to find a
: spokeshave. He lives in the Daytona Beach area. He says that in all the
: stores he has been to so far, they scratch their heads and say
: "what's that?" Can anyone help?

Just did that last month. I had an old one in my garage that had suffered from years of neglect & it didn't have an easily adjustable blade.

WW's Warehouse had a set of 2 for $17. I had to try them. I'm glad I had just read a review [by Brian] of the Veritas spokeshave as he said he had to 'tune up' the $40 spokeshave.
Brian's review is at- http://www.kayakforum.com/cgi-bin/Building/Archive50.pl?review=56747

These definately needed tuning, but otherwise seem serviceable.

The foot & throat of both needed grinding. [the flat one had casting/grinding gouges nearly 1/8" deep.] The blades needed sharpening. It has been a long time since I spent a lot of time sharpening things, so my judgement might be off, but I think the steel in the blades is decent. It took a while to get a good edge on one, but it seems to be holding up to some douglas fir I'm playing with.

They seem comfortable enough in my hands.

Woodworkers Warehouse also has the Record spokeshaves. Took less than a week to deliver to NY.
