...at least not on my PFD. After having several good sheath knives come loose during rescue practice and other vigorous activities, I've come to the conclusion that they're more of a liability that an aid. I now carry the Benchmade Rescue Hook shown below, attached to a lash tab. It's inexpensive, light, much less bulky than a knife and slices through rope, bungee, webbing and fishing line like it's not even there. IHowever, if it comes loose accidently, it's far less likely to slice you open.
If you're interested in one, I would suggest getting the black version. The unpolished areas of the silver one are prone to rust staining. The mirror polished cutting surface has not exhibited any tendency to rust, so I polished the rest of mine and it helped considerably. Mine has the nylon sheath shown, but it's also available with a Kydex sheath that should make it quicker to access without compromising security.
From now on, the knife stays in the food bag.
