I did the same thing Dan did, except my "skirt" was newspapers. I wish I had put on a skirt for the fill coats because I ended up with a lot of runs. I was inexperienced and did heavy fill coats.

Next time I have a better plan. Fair in the edge of the fiberglass with a scraper. Put a "skirt" on the boat about an inch below the faired edge of the deck cloth. Coat way, thinly! Rescrape faired area, add skirt and do another fill coat.
