Solid Edge is a 3d CAD (computer aided design) package. It is used for designing/engineering things. I use it to design; trim dies, and machining fixtures for the die cast industry, and also special machines. The thing that is cool about it is the fact that it is parametric which basically means I could design say a Greenland style paddle using an Excel spread sheet for input data. I would then link the paddles dimensions and formulas that I had assigned to the Excel file. Then if you gave me your anthropometrical (body measurements) measurements I could plug them into the excel file and within seconds I would have a paddle design custom fit to your measurements. It is a very advanced package included is a 2d drafting, 3d part, 3d assembly, weldment and sheet metal, environments. I used the above mentioned paddle design files to create paddle designs for my wife and myself. It works really well. Below is a link to Solid-Edge’s website.
